Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Yr A

Homily
Hero to zero- that is the trajectory for Peter between last Sunday and today’s Gospel passage. Last week we heard his ringing statement of faith in Jesus and Jesus’ commissioning of him – and now we hear Jesus calling him “Satan”!
Over the last week, we had a diocesan Retreat for the whole clergy of Adelaide. It was a wonderful experience. Part of it was to reflect on these two passages, and share our thoughts. One of the priests in my group spoke of how Peter had gone from a “support block” to a” stumbling block”.
That led me to a horrifying thought; had I ever become a stumbling block for someone for whom I should have been a support block. Had I not listened to someone – or worse, had I decided without listening that I knew them and what they should do?
In your life, which are you? And why?
